Thanks to PennSports.Live podcast for having me on to discuss THE RIGHT THING TO DO

I was a guest on PennSports.Live with host Rex Naylor to discuss the true stories of college football integration in the 1960s.

Sports Authors Showcase: The Right Thing to Do by Tom Shanahan | PennSports.LIVE

Naylor’s questions span the leadership of Duffy Daugherty, his assistant coaches who became head coaches, the pioneers who desegregated southern programs and the myths and fiction of Bear Bryant and the 1970 USC-Alabama game.

Those myths are at the expense of the true pioneers, but it’s a difficult message to get across to national writers at ESPN, The Athletic, Sports Illustrated, The Atlantic, Forbes and other national outlets.

They are comfortable with regurgitating the poorly researched sports writing that spread the myth.

The Bear Bryant myths weren’t made up until two decades after the 1970 USC-Alabama game was played.

My books tell the true story of college football integration in the 1960s and address the myths and fiction that allowed a false narrative surrounding the 1970 USC-Alabama game to usurp the credit from the true pioneers. As I said when I spoke at the National Sports Media Association book festival, no two books provide an accurate portrayal more than RAYE OF LIGHT and THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

I’ll put my facts up against anybody, anytime, anywhere. Watch here.
